Manager - Water and Sewer Development Review and Inspection

Major Function:

This is highly responsible managerial, professional, and technical work directing the review and approval of development or re-development projects that require water and sewer service. The position also entails directing the contract administration and inspection of Underground Utilities construction projects. Such projects may be private-development driven or part of the Department’s Capital Improvement Program. The incumbent must develop and maintain contacts with the public, neighborhood groups, businesses, business groups, officials of county, state, and federal agencies, and consulting engineers. Duties are performed with considerable independence and discretion, requiring the exercise of extensive judgment and initiative in day-to-day operations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Manager-Water Utilities Engineering who reviews the work through conferences, evaluation of completed projects, and analysis of reports.

Minimum Training and Experience:

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field, and five years of professional engineering experience that includes project design and planning; and development review or development design.  Two years of experience in direct supervision of engineering/technical staff is also required.

Program Engineer – Stormwater Management

Major Function:

This is responsible supervisory and professional level office and field work of an engineering specialty area. Duties include supervising engineering professionals such as Engineers III and/or executing program activities. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level engineering professional or administrator and involves considerable independent judgment in executing program activities.

Minimum Training and Experience:

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field and five years of professional experience that includes public works, underground utilities engineering, design of stormwater facilities, or documented experience related to all facets of stormwater engineering; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Program Engineer - Stormwater Management

Manager – Public Infrastructure Engineering

Major Function:

This is responsible managerial, professional, administrative and technical engineering work managing the resources and activities dedicated to short and long-term planning, design, construction, and contract management of the City’s public infrastructure and facilities, and development and management of the transportation-related Capital Improvement Plan. The incumbent’s duties include coordinating the activities of the work unit with those of contractors, regulatory agencies, other departments and citizens and providing oversight of the City’s Land Surveying staff and activities. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment under the general administrative direction of the Assistant General Manager-Underground Utilities & Public Infrastructure, who reviews and evaluates the division’s work accomplishments through conferences, analysis of reports and projects completed.

Minimum Training and Experience:

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field and five years of professional and administrative experience that includes public infrastructure planning, design, and construction or experience in a closely related field.  Two years of the required experience must be in a supervisory capacity.

Civil Engineer II or Civil Engineer III

Major Function (CEII):

This is advanced professional civil engineering or transportation planning work involving the design and administrative duties in the office and field on public works or underground utilities projects. Duties may include supervision of subordinate engineers, technicians, and/or clerical employees Work is performed under the general supervision of an engineering supervisor or a higher-level administrator and involves considerable independent judgment in planning, design and construction practices.

 

Major Function (CEIII):

This responsible professional level civil engineering office and field work in design and administration of technical and engineering projects. Duties may include supervision of subordinate engineers, development teams, technicians, and/or clerical employees. Work is performed under the general supervision of an engineering supervisor or administrative superior and involves considerable independent judgment in design, construction practices and environmental permitting.

Minimum Training and Experience (CEII):

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field and two years of professional work experience in the area of engineering to which the position is assigned. Must possess an NCEE Engineer Intern Registration

Minimum Training and Experience (CEIII):

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field and five years of professional work experience in the area of engineering to which the position is assigned; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency

The Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency is a unique, joint City of Tallahassee-Leon County Agency responsible for planning, designing, and constructing community-enhancing projects funded by a local option one cent sales tax. Blueprint project managers, engineers, and planners work together to preserve, protect, and enhance the community’s quality of life through the implementation of holistic and coordinated transportation, water quality, environmental and green space projects.

 

The Blueprint program began in 2000, and it is now entering its second iteration of voter approval. The workload encompassed by this second iteration is a series of 27 varied projects, which have been programmed for completion within the next 20 years with an approximate value of $750,000,000.  The upcoming projects include parks (Lake Lafayette and St. Marks Regional, Market Square, and the Northeast Park); walking and cycling trails and trail networks though environmentally sensitive areas such as alongside our canopy roads (Greenways Master Plan and Bike Route Network projects); roadway projects providing picturesque arteries into and throughout the City of Tallahassee and relieving congestion (Northeast Gateway and Airport Gateway projects among many more), water quality enhancement and flood stage alleviation projects (Capital Cascades Trail Segment 4) and placemaking projects providing wide sidewalks and plaza and park-like amenities to activate epicenters of the City (Midtown, the Fairgrounds, and along portions of Orange Avenue).

Stantec - Community Development Civil Engineer

 

We are seeking a talented, team-focused Civil Engineer to join our team in Tallahassee!

 

The Civil Engineer will be responsible for conducting studies and preparing plans and specifications, applying technical engineering principles, methods, and techniques on public and private engineering projects. 

The position is also responsible for preparing and coordinating technical activities on assigned projects, schedules, be able to conduct and coordinate assigned engineering work, monitoring work for compliance to applicable codes and accepted engineering practices and to coordinate with other project participants. This position is expected to have significant technical knowledge and the awareness to be able to recognize when technical problems are developing and to initiate appropriate corrective actions.
